Supporting Children To Make Changes
Children and young people often find it hard to find the words to tell us how they are feeling. Instead they show their feelings in the way they behave.
When your child is acting in a way that worries, or even annoys you – take some time to think what their behaviour is telling you. It might be that;
Your child might seem difficult to ‘fill up’ and keep asking for snacks. They might really be saying they feel bored and would like some time with you?
Your child is ‘climbing the walls’ or picking fights with their siblings. They might be telling you they need more active play. You could try getting them to do about 5 minutes of star jumps, some dancing, or a race around the garden.
If you are really struggling to make changes and would like some support, you can contact the Healthy Child Programme by calling Just One Number on 0300 300 0123 or texting Parentline on 07520 631590. Our opening hours are 8am-6pm Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays) and 9am-1pm on Saturdays.
If you are 11-19 you can text ChatHealth on 07480 635060 for confidential advice from one of our team.
